If the problem (smoke or fumes coming out the fireplace or stove) occurs ONLY IN WINDY conditions then THIS IS A DOWNDRAUGHT. The anti down draught cowls to use are: A) Static Cowl if your problem is not severe (found here). B) A Spinner Cowl if the your problem is severe (found here).
If the problem (smoke or fumes coming out the fireplace or stove) occurs when there is LITTLE or NO WIND then this is not a downdraught. This is a LACK OF DRAUGHT.
No anti down draught cowl will fix a lack of draught there is only ONE cowl to fix a LACK OF DRAUGHT and that is an ELECTRIC cowl called the SUPER C.
If the Chimney Problem is heat loss, over performance of chimney, excessive fuel consumption or exterior noise in the chimney, then the cowl you need to fix this is the CHIMNEY CONTROL (found here).
If the problem is rain or birds nesting then the cowl you need is the Anti Bird/Anti Rain cowl (found here).
Please read our leaflets on each individual cowl which can be found on their product pages.
How to Install:
The Super R can be fitted to a solid construction chimney or a prefabricated chimney (an adapter is needed and these can be viewed by looking at our website section titled Chimney Cowl Accessories.
If installing onto a solid concrete or brick constructed chimney, the top pot needs to be removed so that there is nothing protruding above the chimney capping.
The cowl is placed over opening.
Three holes are marked, drilled and plugged.
A cushion ring of silicone is placed around the base of the cowl.
This is to prevent any contact with the stack and to ensure suction is from the chimney.
The cowl is again placed over opening and is screwed down lightly.
The cowl should now be connected to the main electricity supply.
Full fitting instructions are supplied with each product.
The Super R Electric Fan Chimney Cowl’s main purpose is to create the correct up draught in a chimney where there is a lack of draught or where the draught is inadequate
The Super R Electric Fan Cowl will also solve the most severe of downdraughts, ventilate (constantly if necessary) chimney flues serving any appliance, by expelling fumes, stale air and exhausts into the atmosphere.
This cowl can be used in situations to vent fireplaces, solid fuel stoves, oil / gas boilers, kitchen hoods and various other appliances.
The Super R Electric Fan Chimney Cowl has been tested in numerous and varied weather conditions & in all cases has proved successful.
The Super R Electric Fan Chimney Cowl incorporates a 230volt economical yet durable motor that is shielded from the heat and exhaust fumes.
This cowl will suit flue sizes ranging from 5 inches in diameter (125mm) to 9 inches in diameter (230mm).
If this cowl is used to create an up draught in an open fireplace, the fireplace opening dimensions cannot exceed 30 inches (760mm) wide and 30 inches (760mm) high and a standard flue gatherer cannot be situated more than 4 inches or 100mm above the fireback. "If your fireplace is larger than these dimensions you should not purchase either the Super R Electric Fan Chimney Cowl nor the Super C Electric Chimney Cowl and instead discuss the matter with us".
With a diameter of 13 ¼ inches (336mm) and a height of 9 ¾ inches (247mm), when installed on a chimney, the Super R Electric Fan Chimney Cowl is small, neat & scarcely visible from the ground.
We are so confident in our product that we offer a 1 year guarantee against any defect in workmanship or materials.
Warning:
The Super R Electric Fan Chimney Cowl should not be fitted on a chimney that is less than 18 feet (5.5m) in length when burning solid fuels – if the product is fitted on a chimney that is shorter than 18 feet or 5.5m its lifespan may be shortened and unfortunately, we cannot cover the guarantee.
It is important not to burn fuels that have a moisture content greater than 20 percent as eventually the vapour and moisture mixed with soot particles will damage the motor, its lifespan will be shortened and unfortunately, we cannot cover the guarantee.
It should not be fitted to an unlined chimney shaft as it will not create enough suction to overcome the lack of draught.
